Honoring Robert Veres for his Dedication to the Marston House Museum & Gardens
September/October 2023
With a mixture of gratitude and sadness, we say goodbye to Robert Veres, our friend and the vigilant caretaker of the Marston House Museum. He has been an integral part of the museum, both in standing watch over this important property and providing our guests with his knowledge and passion for the Marston legacy as he guided tours during the past 13 years. As we reflect on his contributions, we want to publicly express our appreciation for the impact he has made.
Robert's open and friendly demeanor has been a hallmark of his time with SOHO, and a strength in his public role. Museum and park visitors, volunteers, neighbors, dog walkers, and plein air painters capturing the beauty of the gardens were met with a welcoming smile and approachable attitude. His beautiful photographs have memorialized the changing seasons of the grounds and documented the many SOHO events held there through the years.
Robert's interest and willingness to delve into the Marston story, build relationships with Marston family members, and uncover stories, facts, and historical anecdotes has enriched the narratives we share with our visitors.
It's not only within the brick walls of the house and garden that Robert's positive presence has been felt. His support of SOHO, from covering docent shifts on his days off, giving private after-hours museum tours, assisting in event setups, and ensuring the smooth flow of board and committee meetings held at the house, has been a valuable asset.
As Robert moves on to new adventures that include visiting historic places in Northern California, SOHO extends our deepest gratitude for his dedication.
