Three City of San Diego historic sites are beneficiaries of more than $200 million flowing to this area in recently approved state funding. Toni G. Atkins, the state Senate's President pro Tempore who also represents the 39th District (San Diego), announced sweeping funding for programs and projects ranging from addressing homeless to a new pedestrian bridge for Mission Trails Regional Park. Here are the historic projects:

  • Old Logan Heights Library
$2.4 million in state money will go toward the restoration of a 1927 library that has been vacant for years and will be adapted for a new use, possibly a cultural center or a museum.
  • Ocean Beach Pier
California will provide $8.4 million toward reconstruction of the aging landmark.
  • San Diego College of Continuing Education's Educational Cultural Complex
$35 million to renovate the historic theater, home to one of the nation's three oldest African American theater companies and the site of an address by Coretta Scott King in 1983 to build support for a national Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • The budget also includes $50 million for the historic tax credit.
