Great American Outdoors Act Now the Law of this Great Land!
September/October 2020
As expected, and with your valuable support, the Great American Outdoors Act was signed into law August 4, 2020 with hefty bipartisan support (and House sponsorship by the late Civil Rights icon and humanitarian John Lewis.)
This law will provide the greatest investment in historic and cultural resources on our public lands in more than a generation, investing up to $9.5 billion annually to repair National Park Service and other federal agencies' historic assets. The act also includes $900 million annually to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund. An indirect bonus is job creation in many fields, including historic preservation, tourism, recreation, and environmentalism. Read background HERE.
If you contacted your Congressional representative to urge passage of this monumental law, as SOHO and the National Trust for Historic Preservation urged, thank you! It worked!
