All Aboard SOHO's Warner-Carrillo Stagecoach Day Celebration
September/October 2018
By Kathryn Fletcher
Come celebrate the heritage of the Butterfield Stage on November 11 from noon to 4pm at the unique Warner-Carrillo Ranch House in Warner Springs.
Whether riding on the authentic replica stage (noon-3pm, last stage leaves at 2:30pm) or coming to enjoy the entertainment and history, your adventure begins at the historic 1857 Warner-Carrillo Ranch House museum and the former Butterfield Stage Stop. The adobe home tells the story of the emigrant trail, the overland stage, and the ranching history of the area.
This year we will be joined by the Hole in the Wall Gang, who just might rob the stage, and the Jugless Jug Band playing songs of bygone eras. Author and musician Nan Rebik, who is writing a children's book set in the Warner-Carrillo Ranch House, is a member of the band. This celebration offers endless photo opportunities and light refreshments of lemonade, tea, and cookies.
Entry fees to the ranch house include a guided tour portraying the site's multilayered history. Cost is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children 12 and under. Donations for further repairs to the house and restoration of the hand hewn barn and wagons are appreciated.
Stage ride tickets are purchased separately and in advance. This is the only such stage ride event in the nation. If you want to experience what it was like to ride the stage as did thousands of emigrants traveling to the "promised land," reserve your place for a 15- to 20-minute ride along the original trail. Tickets are $25 for SOHO members; $35 for non-members. Join Save Our Heritage Organisation today to get more museum entry benefits, discounts, and notice of special events at our various locations.
Rides take place on a first come first served basis only, with the last stage leaving at 2:30pm. Please arrive early enough to avoid already filled later stages.
