A Decade (and Counting) of Dedicated Service
September/October 2018
The entire board and staff applauds and thanks our outgoing president for her decade of dedicated and inspiring service to SOHO.
Jaye MacAskill has led the board with professionalism, humility, and commitment, as she navigated through complex policies, procedures, and strategic planning. Always mindful of the needs of the membership, she has kept the importance of governance, best practices, and consensus decision making front of mind.
Fortunately, Jaye is only stepping down from one role, and taking on another. Happily, she will be moving to the board's ex officio seat, which is our good fortune, as we would miss her friendly and energetic presence, as well as her intelligent and thoughtful communication.
Importantly, Jaye has led SOHO through a decade of major battles, site expansion and organizational growth. Her calm and no-drama leadership has been just right for stressful and often high-drama times. Executive Director Bruce Coons noted, "Jaye has been a steady hand and a stalwart advocate. It has been my great pleasure serving alongside her. She has been a real partner and ally in the effort to preserve and protect San Diego's cultural heritage."
Jaye has not only led the board and preservation action meetings, but she has volunteered on events and education, and devoted countless hours to committees, programs, projects, and outreach, always enthusiastically. "I can't tell you how many times Jaye has come through to help staff when we were overloaded, with her many skills, from writing and editing to research and physically staffing events. She has been a great supporter and wise counsel, and importantly a friend," said Alana Coons, communications and education director.
We sincerely thank Jaye for her friendship and for her ongoing generous commitment to SOHO and to San Diego!
