2024 General Election Mayoral and City Council Candidate Q&A
July/August 2024

Graphic with the words I'm a historic preservationist ane I vote.

In preparation for the general election on November 5, 2024, SOHO reached out to San Diego's mayoral and city council candidates, inviting them to address key questions about the protection, preservation, and sustainable revitalization of our city's historic buildings, sites, landscapes, and cultural heritage.

We commend the candidates who took the time to engage directly with San Diego's historic preservation community in this way. These candidates, Coleen Cusack, Dr. Terry Hoskins, and Larry Turner are eager to share their vision and commitment to protecting and enhancing your historic neighborhood and community.

However, we are disappointed by the lack of response from the incumbents in the upcoming important election. Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilman Sean Elo-Rivera, and Councilman Stephen Whitburn did not respond to this questionnaire, nor did they respond to the one we sent before the primary in March. Yet all three represent and/or live in our historic neighborhoods. This absence of engagement represents a missed opportunity for these elected leaders to explain their past actions and future plans regarding preservation issues and policies that matter to you, especially given SOHO's extensive and actively involved voting membership.

Here are the survey results from six candidates for mayor and council by district
