It Takes A Village: SB 10 Next Steps

Thank you to the over 900 San Diegans who wrote, called, attended, and/or presented at the June 1, 2023 San Diego Planning Commission hearing.
Ninety-five percent of all written comments and testimony opposed SB 10’s proposed historic designation limitations and SB 10 as a whole. With only six days to coordinate before the meeting, and with three of them being holidays, your response was tremendous! We are grateful, and we applaud you.
We also thank the multiple neighborhood groups who organized excellent visual presentations that introduced thoughtful points and viable solutions. The commissioners responded favorably to many of the issues and ideas presented.
Your roaring input and massive presence made a difference. Clearly, the majority of the Planning Commissioners did not like SB 10 as it is written, particularly the irreversible permanence of it. They unanimously voted to continue the discussion to their August 3, 2023 meeting and directed city staff to come back with answers to serious problems, and with an alternative plan.
“SB 10,” as Chairman William Hofman stated, “is fatally flawed.”
Because you got involved, you helped to delay one of the most dangerous, unreasoned, ill-conceived, and misguided pieces of legislation in San Diego planning history.
So congratulations! Take a minute to receive the good news, and then prepare to rally for August 3.
Please stay involved and together we will succeed in stopping SB 10.
Here’s what you can do right now:
- Spread the word! Tell everyone at work or play, family, friends, and neighbors. Make sure San Diegans know about SB 10 and how it gravely threatens our communities.
- Join Neighbors for a Better San Diego now. They have taken the lead on this campaign since the beginning and SOHO supports their efforts.
- Display yard signs. Order them online
- Print out “NO on SB 10” signs at the above web address for your prominent home and car windows.
- Keep spreading the word. The opposition wants SB 10 to be adopted quietly, but we can’t possibly allow it. Yell “NO on SB 10” from the rooftops! Once it becomes law, it can NEVER be changed.
