Kick Off Summer with SOHO's Outdoor Tours
July/August 2022

Spend the day or spend an hour with your choice of three great walking tours at one of San Diego’s most historic and storied places. Tour times, every third Sunday of the month, are staggered so you can take one or all.
The Marston House Garden Tour takes you on an abbreviated walk through the 5-acre estate, beginning with the first plantings and landscape plan in 1905 through the 1928 introduction of the formal rose garden. The roses are glorious now!
Nestled into Balboa Park’s northwest corner and anchored by the Marston House Museum, the 3500 block of Seventh Avenue is one of San Diego’s great neighborhoods. Learn about the architecture and landscaping, the families who lived in and built the residences, and the connection of all the homes to the fabled Marston family. Notable architects Irving J. Gill, William S. Hebbard, Frank Mead, and Richard Requa all have beautiful examples of their work here.
Discover the horticultural and serene paradise that lies hidden just beyond the bustling uptown and downtown areas. Both of the Seventh Avenue walking tours are beautiful park excursions that will enhance any visitor’s understanding of San Diego architecture and landscape history.
Pedestrian bridges over canyons with views of San Diego Bay make for a picturesque walk through the softly sloped terrain of Bankers Hill. Rich in the early 20th-century Modern architecture that Irving Gill pioneered, this tour includes the largest concentration of Gill homes built anywhere.
Bring a picnic and enjoy it on the Marston House’s south lawn after your tour! Just remember: Pack it in, pack it out.
Tours cost $15 per person, last about 45 minutes, and are offered on the third Sunday of each month. Reserve your tour now.
