Marston House Needs New Awnings
While we are all big fans of the sunny San Diego weather, sometimes you need a little relief. The awnings on the first-floor windows of the sunny south and west facades of the Marston House provide just that, protecting the interior finishes, fabrics, and artwork from the everlasting sunshine while honoring the historic design and character of the home. American homeowners became charmed by awnings during the late 19th century, and they were regularly added to many different style homes throughout the following decades. The vertical striped design was exceedingly popular and can be seen in many historic photos of the Marston House. While awnings are a charming and practical addition to a home, years of sunlight can take its toll. Today, the home's signature white and green striped awnings are beginning to fade and tear. SOHO has a plan to replace four awnings, taking measurements and sourcing appropriate historic Arts and Crafts awnings. The estimated cost of replacement and installation of all four is $4,125, and we are looking for donors willing to help us fund this important, highly visible project. If you would like to contribute, please make your donation HERE. Thank you for your consideration of help with the Marston House. The home is in great need of exterior restoration, together with your help, we can take care of some of the important details as we await the city to find funding for the larger needs. |
