Oceanside's Top Gun House Rolls to New Home
July/August 2020

Best known as the Top Gun house, for its appearance in the 1986 movie of the same name, and listed on SOHO's Most Endangered List back in 2001-2002, SOHO has been working since 2005 with S.D. Malkin Properties and the Oceanside Historical Society to ensure that this 1887 Victorian era beach cottage is preserved and protected. The last and best building to remain from Oceanside's 1880s boom period, it is one of the fanciest oceanfront Victorian era cottages in San Diego County. It handsomely represents the origins of Oceanside's development as a vacation and tourist destination, which continues today with the new Hyatt resort planning to open in Spring 2021.

Originally called the Graves House, at the corner of Pacific Street and Seagaze Drive, watch HERE as the restored cottage rolled to its new home on May 21, 2020. Adjacent to the Hyatt resort, the new location provides an oceanfront view, so this spectacular cottage retains its original context. Next steps are to make and set the resource on its new foundation; finish restoring the exterior, which includes appropriate Victorian era paint colors; and find a suitable use that allows public access.

Thanks to S.D. Malkin Properties, and a host of others who helped this highly anticipated project finally come to fruition!
