People In Preservation Celebrates 40th Year

The National Trust's 2023 preservation theme is People Saving Places, which they describe as a sweeping high-five to everyone doing the great work of saving historic places—in ways big and small—and inspiring others to do the same.
For 40 years, SOHO has been honoring the people saving places with our People In Preservation (PIP) awards, recognizing over 400 honorees who have made significant contributions toward protecting and preserving our architectural, cultural, and environmental heritage.
These heroic people, from the self-taught to professionals doing complex, demanding, and skilled preservation work to benefit everyone, have been integral to San Diego’s preservation movement.
This year's event will be extra special. Along with winning nominees, it will salute those people who frequently work behind the scenes and often without fanfare, people who have committed much of their energy, time, and funding to preserving San Diego’s historic resources. Their legacies are seen and felt all around us, and that’s forever.
SOHO is paying tribute to individuals who have given and continue to give of themselves to challenging, tireless advocacy work. We are celebrating their contributions and commitment and we applaud them for making a significant impact on our communities and our entire region. Their driving forces for change, combined with their passion and unwavering dedication, have not only inspired others but also paved the way for them to get involved.
The significance of this legacy-focused year is to ensure that the accomplishments of these remarkable people are remembered and appreciated for years to come.
We will celebrate this milestone 40th anniversary of People In Preservation in person on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 3pm to 5pm in the Marston gardens. Save the date now.
