SOHO's Historic Sites Offer Online Lesson Plans and Activities for All Ages
May/June 2020
Just one of several recipes, handwritten by Anna Whaley, found on the new Educator Resources page. |
SOHO is pleased to launch our new Educator Resources that feature all of SOHO's historic places and sites: the Marston House, Santa Ysabel Store, Warner-Carrillo Ranch House, the Hoover Barn, Adobe Chapel, and the Whaley House.
Along with digital exhibitions, we are creating activities that people of all ages can do at home relating to the museums and their collections, and finding new ways to deliver content to you to help you stay connected with us.
We have puzzles and coloring books for all sites, and a larger group of activities with an emphasis on family and home school activities for the Whaley House Museum. Its print-and-go lesson plans and activities are designed with California State history curriculum in mind.
These lesson plans, word puzzles, and trivia games, along with some of Anna Whaley's favorite recipes, are an attractive and practical way for students to learn more about the California Gold Rush, the history of San Diego, and the Whaley House and Whaley family.
This page is beneficial for classes making field trips to the Whaley House as well as for homeschooled youth, and for students unable to visit the Whaley House in person. With the current Covid-19 educational restrictions in place, this is a creative (and fun!) way to keep youth connected to history while in their own homes.
We will be adding to our collection of lesson plans and activities so that you can learn more about this unique family.
We invite you to check back frequently at the Whaley House and at SOHO.
