Thank You, Vigilant Citizen Preservationists!

SOHO regularly advocates for community members to keep their eyes peeled and ears to the ground about preservation issues related to code compliance, non-permitted projects, and demolition by neglect. It is often through the community that SOHO learns about various problems, and the more voices that sound the alarm, the quicker a response typically happens.
Citizen preservationists really do make a difference. That is how SOHO learned about the code compliance issue at Mission Cliff Drive, where modern changes were made to the historic gate and fence. SOHO is now working with stakeholders from the University Heights community, in addition to code compliance, to ensure this gets restored. A more positive example is a building at the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and Illinois Street. SOHO learned that the Streamline Moderne style commercial building, now boarded up, is potentially significant and should not be touched.
Here's how you can be a Citizen Preservationist
If you notice some unusual activity in your or any neighborhood that is impacting historical resources, first use the City's OpenDSD database, to determine if any activity is slated for that location. If not, then "Request an Investigation" HERE. Also, send an email to SOHO at SOHOsandiego@aol.com with the address so we can file a request as well. By working together, we strengthen and amplify the community's voice.
