Students from the California International Business University (CIBU) in San Diego visited the Santa Ysabel Store on March 19. The 50 students from Denmark, Norway, and Greenland are enrolled in a program focused on innovation, design theory, and start-ups. Their visit showed them how a non-profit such as SOHO can preserve a historic site while creating a fundraising entity. Historic buildings are a positive economic factor for any community, and our store demonstrates how innovative a non-profit like SOHO can be. By recycling and rehabilitating antiques and vintage items as well as sourcing and selling quality reproduction and facsimile items and books throughout the store, SOHO created a fundraising arm, with the focus fully on our mission. As the Santa Ysabel Historic Site Manager, I spoke to the group on the store's history and about SOHO's role and presence, in city and backcountry, as a countywide organization.
