New Chair Nominated for Advisory Council on Historic Preservation
May/June 2018
Wayne Donaldson, a nationally renowned preservation architect and SOHO Board member, currently chairs the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), an independent federal agency that promotes historic preservation and advises the president and Congress on preservation policy. ACHP also works with various governments (local, state, tribal, and federal) to carefully consider historic standards and values when planning for change under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
In March, Aimee Jorjani was nominated to succeed Donaldson. Still to be confirmed by the Senate, Jorjani is expected to become the first full-time chairman since the National Park Service Centennial Act, which modifies the chairmanship to full-time status.
"I congratulate Aimee on her nomination as chairman of the ACHP," Donaldson said in a ACHP news release. "Her leadership and dedication to historic preservation will ensure a bright future for the agency. She is a strong advocate for historic preservation, and her presence will add to the national preservation program." Read the news release.
Jorjani worked at the Department of the Interior during the George Bush administration as the Deputy Secretary's Special Assistant for Historic Preservation and the first department-wide Historic Preservation Officer. She was a legislative aide to Representative Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) and worked for Preservation Action, a lobbyist group. Jorjani participated in the federal historic preservation program task force (2010-2011) and has served as a board member for both Preservation Action and the National Preservation Institute.
