Thanks to You, Crucial Preservation Study Fully Funded
March/April 2025
SOHO is delighted to announce the successful funding of our upcoming PlaceEconomics study, made possible entirely by the generosity of dedicated preservationists, members, and supporters.
We once again extend our tremendous gratitude to our generous donor couple, whose incredible $23,000 matching gift set this effort in motion; to Mission Hills Heritage for keeping the momentum going with their $10,000 pledge; and to YOU for unlocking the matching funds and backing up the $5,000 grant request that SOHO submitted to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Together we did it!
This crucial project will soon be underway to provide essential economic and other data to demonstrate the immense value of historic preservation in San Diego. The comprehensive study will equip us with hard evidence to counter misinformation and advocate for policies that protect our historic neighborhoods while addressing affordability, sustainability, and equity.
We know—and the public can be assured—that the information we receive from this study will be both trustworthy and accurate, free from predetermined outcomes or developer influence. Our effort stands in stark contrast to the City's push for "streamlining new construction" through its initiative.
Recognizing the urgent need for factual, comprehensive data and analysis, SOHO turned to you—San Diego’s preservation community. Your swift, overwhelmingly positive and generous response sent a powerful message. Your contributions have ensured that PlaceEconomics, the leading firm in the field, can now proceed with the study, which will highlight the economic, cultural, and social benefits of preserving San Diego’s historic sites.
Funding is just the beginning. As the study progresses, we will keep you informed every step of the way. The PlaceEconomics team will visit San Diego later this year and engage with the community through Zoom meetings and other opportunities for input. We will share updates, findings, and ways for you to stay informed and involved as we learn more.
Your civic-minded support has made this essential study possible.
We thank you.
