Interior of All Souls Episcopal Church in Point Loma

This photo of All Souls Episcopal Church in Point Loma by Oliver Asis Photography won first place in the interior category in OH! San Diego's 2018 photo contest.

With its fun, fizzy name, OH! San Diego is back with an ambitious smorgasbord of more than 100 free open houses and behind-the-scenes tours of historic and new buildings, and well-designed places March 23 and 24. Organized by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, this year's event includes La Jolla for the first time. More "hidden gems and architectural treasures," the foundation says, can be found in downtown San Diego, Bankers Hill, Balboa Park, Barrio Logan, and Point Loma. Plan your days to visit many choice sites—or travel at your own leisurely pace. There's a kids drawing event with architects and a photo contest, too.

Make reservations starting March 4 for the sites requiring them. Launch party March 3 for $20, when organizers will reveal their favorite picks. Volunteers can sign up until March 9. More info click HERE.

SOHO is participating with 45-minute exterior guided tours of the Marston House Museum & Gardens both days at 11am and 1pm. Reservations are required. Check in at least 10 minutes before the tour.

One of California's finest remaining Arts and Crafts homes, the Marston House dates to1905, when it was built for the George and Anna Marston family of Progressive leaders and activists. George Marston, a well-to-do merchant, was a visionary civic leader and environmentalist who commissioned the city's leading architects, William Hebbard and Irving Gill, to design his home. The estate is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Its picturesque and formal gardens also boast a glowing design pedigree. George Cook of the Samuel Parsons Jr. firm first designed a landscape with a sweeping lawn blending into Balboa Park. In 1926, Hale Walker, of John Nolen's landscape architecture firm, re-designed the formal gardens. San Diego architect William Templeton Johnson added decorative details. Save Our Heritage Organisation maintains and operates the property for the City of San Diego.
