SOHO will again participate in Mission Hills Heritage's annual lecture series, this time with the theme "Mission Hills Architecture in the Roaring Twenties." It takes place March 16 from 1 to 4pm, at the Francis Parker Lower School, 4201 Randolph Street. Historic restoration vendors, contractors, and artisans will answer questions and provide displays on patio tables. In addition, SOHO president David Goldberg and our historic resources staff will offer preservation information. The lectures will begin at 1pm, with time allowed for questions and a break with refreshments.

The talks will cite examples of 1920s Mission Hills houses to explore the architecture of this dynamic decade. Neighborhood styles include Tudor and Storybook, French and English Eclectic, and Italian Renaissance Revival. At 1pm, Ron May, principal of Legacy 106, will discuss themes and events that led to the Roaring Twenties styles. Architectural historian Diane Kane will follow with "Jazz Age Architecture in Mission Hills." Last, Laura Wile and Don Fay, 2018 SOHO People In Preservation award winners, will describe their restoration of the Swan House on Alameda Drive, a 1923 Spanish Eclectic style masterpiece.
