In our continuing series highlighting SOHO's exceptional, dedicated staff, we start the new year with Sandé Lollis, our exceedingly talented Audio/Visual Production Manager. Sandé's dynamic, multidimensional contributions over the past 23 years with SOHO have made her a stellar standout within SOHO and a tireless unstinting productive force for us. A self-described “autodidact polymath” driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a staunch commitment to excellence, Sandé has seamlessly transitioned over the years from wearing a single hat to assuming essential, multifaceted roles within SOHO's intricate ecosystem.
Involved in almost every aspect of our work today, she began her association in late 2000 as a volunteer tasked with reviving SOHO’s quarterly newsletter, Reflections, which had been dormant for nearly a year. Always determined, Sandé conquered obstacles in new digital printing methods, paving the way for consistently enriching and captivating publications for more than two decades so far.
Embracing a holistic approach to professional growth and expertise, Sandé delved into the intricacies of online coding, facilitating the redesign and maintenance of SOHO's website. She has created an ongoing comprehensive presentation of SOHO's vast repository of resources and information, amassed since our founding in 1969. For this, she meticulously organized a staggering 4,000 pages of substantive content and countless images while ensuring a user-friendly and comprehensive online experience.
In addition, Sandé's photography portfolio highlights her skill in capturing diverse SOHO endeavors, from city hall meetings and protests to the unique nuances of the yearly People In Preservation awardees and their projects. She also photographs our annual Most Endangered List of historic resources, and everything from architecture tours, events, and museum shop catalogs.
Demonstrating creativity, adaptability, and linguistic aptitude, Sandé is an indispensable member of the trinity behind the production of SOHO's bi-monthly Our Heritage eNews.
Sandé's not only a technical wizard, she is also a professional musician and leads the award-winning all-original Americana trio Enter the Blue Sky. Her heavy involvement in San Diego’s musical community gave her the edge in organizing the Music at the Marston concert series for the last two years, everything from contacting talent and curating each concert to running the audio for each one.
With a true artist's touch, Sandé’s work permeates almost every aspect of SOHO's visual impact and identity as well, ranging from architecture and history books published by SOHO's Our Heritage Press, as well as tour booklets, physical and digital exhibitions, and so much more. Her creative vision is easily seen in SOHO's online presence, with impactful social media campaigns and well-crafted advertisements and promotional materials.
"I would not want to tackle the challenging and often urgent work we do without Sandé's ingenuity and can-do, solution-focused ethic," Education and Communications Director Alana Coons states.
Sandé says she considers herself fortunate and enriched to have amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience through the seemingly endless opportunities that have come her way through SOHO. We consider ourselves lucky indeed to have this dedicated, versatile, and caring team member working with us through triumphs and trying times of these many years. Her steadfast, professional presence is an invaluable part of SOHO's success.
