Many of you already know Robin Lakin, who has distinguished herself in multiple roles at SOHO over two decades. She began her journey with the organization in 2001, initially serving as head docent with the Whaley House Museum, while also playing an integral role in establishing the museum's period clothing program. In 2012, she assisted in opening and operating the Warner-Carrillo Ranch House, and served as a curatorial team member, research historian, and interpretive programmer for both the Whaley House and Warner-Carrillo Ranch House museums.
A graduate of San Diego's historic Academy of Our Lady of Peace High School, Robin holds an associate's degree from San Diego Mesa College in selected studies with a focus on history, humanities, and the arts. Her personal interests coincide with much of her professional work, including genealogy; reading and transcribing historic letters, biographies, journals, and documents; historical sewing and textiles; drawing and painting; and watching documentaries and "just about everything" on "Masterpiece Theatre."
Robin is a key member of our virtual team as well and has contributed to virtual educational games, puzzles, and novel history guides for students and their families to access during the pandemic. She also helped research and write several of SOHO's online exhibitions and documentaries.
Over the past decade, Robin said, "I was privileged to get to know and learn from former Marston House site managers Sarai Johnson and Bobbie Bagel." Now, as the Marston House Museum's new site manager, Robin is the volunteer coordinator, handles curatorial duties, and continues the Marston House, gardens and family research established by the late historian Sarai Johnson.
Robin said she is meeting or getting reacquainted with the friends and neighbors of the Marston House Museum & Gardens, and "greatly enjoys working with such a knowledgeable, dedicated group of docents in one of San Diego's most beautiful historic places."
