San Diego's revitalized North Park got star treatment in a recent New York Times real estate feature, "North Park, San Diego: The Rewards of 'Walkability'" (November 19, 2019). The article quoted residents and described the historic neighborhood and its attractions for potential home buyers and renters.

"North Park is among San Diego's oldest neighborhoods, and its housing stock includes a number of Craftsman-style and turn-of-the-century California bungalows. The North Park Dryden Historic District, a cluster of pitched-roof homes with wide eaves designed by local son David Owen Dryden, sits along 28th and Pershing Streets," reporter Debra Kamin wrote, adding "there are still some century-old originals to be found." Kamin also noted bountiful historic Spanish Revival homes and North Park's "urban energy," stemming from an explosion of craft breweries, vintage shops, and inventive cafes.

The North Park Historic District went unmentioned specifically, but the "neatly gridded enclave lined with 1920s Craftsman-style homes adjacent to the urban cultural mecca that is Balboa Park" won high marks for its walkability. Kamin's bottom line: "It's walkable, liberal, and just a tiny bit gritty."
