Moved to Watch Status 2022
Family Health Centers of San Diego, the new owners of the 1977 former branch bank, a rare example of the New Formalist style, announced their commitment to preserving the architecture and its outstanding mosaics portraying San Diego scenes by the renowned artist Millard Sheets. Their new clinic, Mission Bay Family Health Center, is scheduled to open in early 2026. The iconic, bronze sea lion statue by John Edward Svenson will be moved to a more visible spot on site, with the entire complex creating a prominent entryway to Pacific Beach. SOHO had listed it on MEL to preserve the building and artwork when threatened by Chase’s now defunct redevelopment plans.
