One of SOHO's largest and most important preservation battles to date is the David and Goliath story of the decade: Balboa Park. Plans have been proposed that would severely impact the National Historic Landmark District with the massively destructive Plaza de Panama Circulation and Parking Project. This project would do nothing to enhance the beauty of the park or restore its historic features, but would instead bring more cars, traffic, noise, and concrete into the core, and prevent future restoration. The changes would be so dramatic as to make the Balboa Park we know today unrecognizable.
