David Swarens - Vice President
David Swarens is a SOHO board member and twice two-term president of the organization. As a member of SOHO's Preservation Action committee he has played an essential role in SOHO’s crucial negotiations and agreements regarding major precedent-setting preservation projects, including downtown San Diego’s Warehouse Thematic Historic District, the Ballpark District, and the Hotel del Coronado’s restoration and the adaptive reuse of its historic service buildings.
As a member of the musical duo Los Californios, David is involved in interpreting early California history with music of 19th Century California at historic sites and museums throughout the state. He has served on his community planning group, as chairperson and board member, the Enterprise Community Governance Board, and the Sherman Heights Revitalization Team.
His community involvement helped secure the City of San Diego’s adoption of the Sherman Heights and the South Park Historic Districts, encompassing hundreds of historic homes and other buildings. David is the owner of the 1923 Austin Bungalow in the Sherman Heights Historic District featured in the popular books The Bungalow and Inside the Bungalow.
