Janet O'Dea
Janet O'Dea grew up in Chicago and has had a life-long interest in architecture and design. In 2000, Janet joined SOHO and has been active on SOHO committees ever since. Teaming up with her husband Allen Hazard, In 2004 they produced the Mission Hills Historic District and in 2007 it was designated, being the first residents driven district in the nation.
In 2022, Janet retired after selling a San Diego institution, Powers Plumbing, that she restored, owned and managed for eleven years and after closing Sunset Boulevard Productions, the side-gig she and Allen ran initially when writing the Arcadia book Mission Hills Images of America then producing numerous historic reports for San Diegans who sought historic designation.
Janet’s well-rounded background combines corporate expertise with community service. She served on the coordinating committee of Third Act SoCal (2021–2024) and as vice chair of Uptown Planners, where she also founded and chaired its historic resources committee. A DePaul University graduate with a degree in Liberal Arts, she has contributed to numerous committees and initiatives.
In her spare time, Janet enjoys gardening, hiking, and travel and always enjoys learning more about San Diego's fascinating history.
