Heritage Architecture & Planning
A Prescription for Preservation
Ace Drug Store Building & the Florence Apartments

The Mission Hills Shopping Center on the north side of Washington between Goldfinch and Falcon held two circa 1925 buildings entombed beneath the false front. A modern stucco façade and canopy had been added in the 1950s and the remodel impacted their appearance so severely, they were unrecognizable and deemed ineligible for designation. The restoration project revealed two commercial architectural gems in one of San Diego's most established and historically significant neighborhoods.

It took an exceptional team of professionals to restore these beloved neighborhood buildings. SOHO is pleased to present the Prescription for Preservation Award to the distinguished firm of Heritage Architecture & Planning for the restoration of the Ace Drug Store & Florence Apartments.
