Tershia D'Elgin
Saving Natural Landscapes
San Diego's many canyons have archeological and natural importance. The native habitat in the 32nd Street canyon is a lot better off today through the efforts of Tershia D'Elgin. Through Friends of the 32nd Street Canyon
she spearheaded efforts to obtain nearly a half-million dollars in grant money that helped to haul out approximately ten tons of debris, eradicated two acres of perennial grasses and restored at least 1,000 native seedlings.
When school officials wanted to pave over the canyon to build a new school, she managed to dissuade the project and has continued to raise awareness on the treatment of our canyon lands throughout San Diego. For her contribution and advocacy to protect our natural cultural resources Tershia D'Elgin is honored with the Saving Natural Landscapes "Preservation Goes Wild!" award.
