July 31
Interpreted Tour for the deaf & hard of hearing
6-6:45pm

The Whaley House Museum will be offering an interpreted tour for the deaf and hard of hearing, in which visitors will be able to explore and learn about the site through sign language interpreters.

Katherine Goodheart, Tamithia Barnier, Carrie Kaufmann, and Donna Napolitan have been working with SOHO in order to make this tour possible.

Katherine (Kadi) Goodheart is a native San Diegan. She was introduced to sign language as a freshman, at Madison High School in Clairemont. From the beginning, she knew that she had found her calling. With encouragement from her mentors, she continued her studies at Mesa while still attending Madison. In May of 2009, she will graduate from Palomar College with an AA in English/ASL Interpreting. Kadi will go on to get her BA in Deaf Studies at CSU Northridge. She is looking forward to serving the local Deaf community at one of San Diego's most popular haunts.

Tamithia (Tami) Barnier is a native Californian. Having been signing throughout the community for the last four years, she will be graduating the Palomar College Interpreting program May 2009. Tami began signing with a friend and promptly fell in love with the language and culture. It was a quick choice to become an Interpreter. Interpreting tours for the Whaley House "Will be a fun new experience. I am looking forward to communicating with anyone (living or deceased) during these tours."

Carrie Kaufmann has been an Interpreter in San Diego for five years, and has her Master level National Interpreting Certification. She was born and raised here in San Diego, and finds the history of San Diego fascinating. She came to the Whaley House as a child and is happy to have the opportunity to be involved in educating the Deaf community on the history of San Diego.

Donna Napolitan has been working as a sign language interpreter in San Diego since 1986. She is currently employed by the San Diego Unified School District.
