SOHO Extends Three San Diego Exposition Centennial Exhibits

Good news! Due to their popularity, we have extended the run of three exhibits that celebrate the 1915 Panama-California Exposition centennial on view throughout the historic Marston House Museum & Gardens in Balboa Park. The shows will remain through Monday, January 11, 2016.

"We had many more visitors than anticipated during the summer, and want to make these exhibits available to as many people as possible," said Alana Coons, SOHO's director of education and communications. "School-age visitors and their families, and people of all ages and backgrounds will find enough Expo souvenirs to dazzle the eyes and imagination; sheet music written to serenade beautiful San Diego; and Buck, the dog made famous by Jack London, carved in redwood."

The three ongoing exhibits are:

  • Souvenirs & Keepsakes: Memorabilia of the 1915 & 1935 Expositions Drawn from two extraordinary private collections amassed by San Diegans, this rollicking exhibit features colorful, fun and downright ingenious souvenirs from the 1915 Expo and the 1935 California-Pacific Exposition.
  • Balboa Park Exposition Designers 1915-1935: The Making of a Dream City Although architect Bertram G. Goodhue gets most of the credit, a host of architects, landscape architects and designers shaped and cultivated Balboa Park over two decades, making it the unique, beautiful combination of architecture and gardens that remains an international attraction.
  • Exposition Memories: The Music, Literature & Decorative Arts of the 1915 Exposition Original and manufactured evidence of how the arts permeated contemporary life in California and the Southwest, as reflected in the 1915 Expo, will prompt recognition and evoke memories among visitors.
