San Diego City Council Approves 20-Year Lease For Chicano Park Museum

The San Diego City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a 20-year lease that will pave the way for a museum and community center at a city-owned property adjacent to Chicano Park.

The Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center has for several decades sought to move into the 9,890-square-feet building at 1960 National Ave., which formerly housed an adult education campus.

The vacant property will allow the 48-year-old nonprofit to expand services, programs and exhibitions related to the art, history and sciences of the Americas, with an emphasis on U.S.-Mexico border region cultures. Read more

For the youngest preservationists

It's never too early to teach children about historic preservation! To help celebrate and honor the 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service and the 50th Anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Historic Preservation Junior Ranger Activity Book was created to educate the next generation of preservation stewards. Fun for children ages 7 and up, the book aims to teach basic concepts in historic preservation and to introduce the National Park Service's historic preservation programs. Download your FREE copy.
