Horton Plaza Grand Opening
June 2016

Horton Plaza Park is one of San Diego's oldest and most treasured landmarks. On May 4, the renovated park reopened, with the 1910 fountain that Irving Gill designed as its centerpiece now beautifully and meticulously restored. Its dome glistens, its water jets arc and flow, and its nocturnal personality is bathed in colored lights.

Westfield Horton Plaza, the mall's owner, created a large public gathering space adjacent to the historic park, with an amphitheater, food vendors and ArtsTix. People using these amenities will spill over into Horton Plaza Park, while it faithfully retains its historic identity, boundaries, benches and lighting.

During the grand opening celebration, Bruce Coons, SOHO's Executive Director, said, "Over the years SOHO has fought many battles to preserve this historic park, more than for any other single landmark. That is why the historic Irving Gill fountain became our logo."
