May 2 · History Alive Lecture
Don't miss award-winning historian Alexander Bevil this Thursday, May 2 at 7 pm in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove. His remarkable topic, "The Garden of the Dead" at the Presidio, lays bare the neglect of this crucial section of the famous old park and its centuries of inhabitants.
George Marston, founder of the San Diego Historical Society (now History Center) first drew attention to the site early in the 20th century because he recognized the pivotal importance of honoring pioneers by preserving their graves. This hallowed ground prompted Father Serra to say, "Their names are known only to God."
But Bevil is on the case and will share the riveting story in words and pictures.
History Alive is free, essential and suitable for ages 18 and over.
