Heavenly Relief Coming to Adobe Chapel
January/February 2018
By Dean Glass

Adobe Chapel interiorWant to attend SOHO's silent movies, but dread the thought of those hard, historic pews at the Adobe Chapel? Well, not to worry. Thanks to a major contribution by a very generous SOHO member, new velvet cushions are being fabricated by Robin Lakin, Museum & Visitor Services Staff Coordinator, and a part of our curatorial team, and will soften your seat when our Third Thursdays Silent Movie Series returns in May.

"The chapel was a very humble place of worship; we want the simplicity of the pews to stand out, so the velvet will match the dark brown wood," Lakin said. "Velvet is pretty typical for upholstery materials continually in use from 1860 through 1920, the duration of the chapel's use for religious services."

Now in its fourth year, SOHO's popular silent movie series will screen four more classic films from the pre-talkie era at the Adobe Chapel from May through August. Watch for our 2018 lineup this spring in Our Heritage eNews. Then, please come sit with us.
