Board of Directors
Save Our Heritage Organisation's new Board President is Jaye MacAskill, a 2005 graduate of the University of San Diego with a Masters in the Public History Program and an experienced consultant in the field of historical designations.
Growing up in Canada on rural Vancouver Island, Jaye was fortunate to experience San Diego on numerous occasions as a child and young adult during regular trips south to visit her grandparents in Orange County. After completing her BA and an additional three-year college program in museum studies in Ottawa, she left Canada in 1999 to work at the New York Transit Museum. Her first effort in the field of historic preservation was to help organize a non-profit group intent on saving an abandoned, spectacularly massive, WPA-era outdoor swimming pool complex in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. The pool is now triumphantly re-purposed to hold large-scale outdoor alternative rock concerts!
Jaye relocated from New York to San Diego in 2003 and has been on the SOHO Board of Directors since 2007, serving as Vice President for the past two years. Of her local preservation accomplishments, she is proud to have written many successful historic register nominations, but especially for the designation of the unique Russell Forester-designed Modernist style home of Jack in the Box founder Robert O. Peterson. She is soon to be working in the field of real estate sales where she intends to concentrate on older and historic housing stock in order to educate home owners about the benefits of historic preservation and the importance of good stewardship.
